Both volumes have a gilt embossed illustration on front covers, which depicts a log cabin with campfire and 3 people. Both volumes have crushed spine ends and bent corners and previous owner's name neatly written on the title pages. Otherwise very good condition overall. Second, and considered better or more complete edition, with an extra, 41 pages (pp. [295]-336) chapter entitled, "Canadian Sketches," added to volume II, which does not appear first London edition, volume II. VOLUME 1; pp. xx, 293, [1], [2]ads; Read hinge starting.Pages to x, have a very light age toning, pages after that are in very good condition and clean with a half dozen pages some light soiling . The spines and cover has all gilt type readable on slightly faded cloth.VOLUME 2 -[4], [1]-336pp.  This volume is also the same dark green olive cloth-bound hardcover as Volume 1. With gilt engraved illustration on front cover, and Title etc in gilt on spine. Also there is embossing and design on front and back covers and spine. Front cover has a very small white spot.
