New York: Printed For William Jackson 71, Maiden Lane, 1831. 8vo. 231 b/w. illustrations on 39 plates including the frontispiece The Seven Ages Of Man and 6 illustrations for each of the 37 plays. pp. [i-iii] and 1-37 printed one side only on 5 unbound, unopened, untrimmed signatures of 16 pp. each. Although this purports to be an American edition, the price stated on the front cover and title page is Three Shillings and Sixpence. The original 1825 London edition spells our playwright's name Shakespeare but this edition and an 1830 London edition omit the first e. In this edition the e is also dropped under the portrait of The Bard which is internally the first illustration The back cover has advertisements for the British publisher, Sherwood, Gilbert and Piper. The name of the printer, D.S. Maurice apparently appears on the 2 London editions but not this American one. OCLC locates 1 copy at the University of Miami. Bruntjen, Checklist of American Imprints for 1831: 9418. Some browning and soiling of covers with small chips and tears on edges. Internally very good +.
