Cedar Rapids, IA: Torch Press, 1932. First Edition. Octavo. Half-bound in publisher's light blue cloth, white vellum spine and corners, gilt spine titles and top page edges, and deckle edges. Housed in a matching blue cloth slipcase. Twenty-three black-and-white plates, plus frontispiece, all present. One of fifty unnumbered copies, privately printed. INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper: "Mr. Frank D. Lowe / With love and best wishes / from / J. Lowe White / September, 1932." Frank D. Lowe was a relative of White's, and is referenced at the rear in a section devoted to family history. White was a prominent Illinois businessman and promoter of blasting powder since the late nineteenth century. He would become president and treasurer of the Illinois Powder Manufacturing Company, and in 1908 the company changed its name to Gold Medal Dynamite in recognition of a medal White received at an exhibition in Omaha in 1898. Light foxing to the vellum, brief loss to the backstrip, and light toning and shelfwear to the slipcase, else Near Fine in a Very Good plus slipcase. First Edition.
