"Commy": The Life Story of the Grand Old Roman of Baseball Charles A. Comiskey
Price: 395.00 USD
Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1919. First edition. Contemporary biography of the Hall of Fame owner of the Chicago White Sox. Comiskey, a player of some repute in the 1880s and 90s, became one of the game's leading magnates and was influential in the formation of the American League. Ironically, this biography was published mere months before the downfall of the team when eight players were banned forever from baseball for consiring to throw the 1919 World Series. A very good copy, some fading to the top edge of the front cloth corresponding to a large chip in the dust jacket. The scarce pictorial dust jacket (featuring indentical photos of Comiskey front and rear) has a triangular chip on the front panel, 2 1/2" long and 3/4" deep at its deepest. The lettering of "Commy" is faded. There is also some wear at the folds and shallow chipping to the rear panel. One of the most sought after and scarcest 20th century baseball titles and particularly so in the dust jacket. First. Very Good.
