Winston S. Churchill, The Official Biography, Volume VII, Road to Victory 1941-1945
Price: 30.00 USD
London: Guild Publishing, 1986. The Official Biography of Winston Churchill, initiated by Randolph Churchill but completed by Martin Gilbert, is an epic piece of scholarship about a singularly epic life, comprising eight mammoth main text volumes. The British first editions of the eight main text volumes were published between 1966 and 1988. This seventh volume of the Official Biography covers the seminal events from Pearl Harbor to Victory in Europe, 8 May 1945. This is the period that cemented Churchill's place in history, encompassing his first Premiership and his extraordinary wartime leadership. Here is the Book Club edition, which is quite similar to the pictorial dust jacket issue of the British first edition and was published in the same year. This Book Club edition was bound in blue cloth and issued in an illustrated dust jacket, the front face showing a photograph of Churchill landing on the eastern bank of the Rhine on 25 March 1945 and the rear face showing a photograph of Churchill from his Victory Broadcast of 8 May 1945. This is a fine copy in a near-fine dust jacket. The blue cloth binding is square, clean, and tight. The contents are immaculate and the book appears unread. The dust jacket is bright, clean, and complete with fractional wear confined to the spine tail and upper rear hinge. The dust jacket is protected in a removable, archival quality clear cover.
