Baseball In The Big Leagues: A Book for Boys (in rare original dust jacket)
Evers, Johnnie; Fullerton Hugh S.
Price: 450.00 USD
Chicago: Reilly & Britton, 1910. Tan cloth lettered and with design of a baseball pitcher in wind up pose printed in red, black and grey. 308 pps. Illustrated with full page photographic plates. A fine, tight, bright example. In the rare original dust jacket with design duplicating that of the decorated cloth, some light rubbing to the panels, s short crinkeled tear top front panel and shallow wear at the spine extremities. The second edition, here retitled from the original "Touching Second". One of the keystone titles of early baseball, an anecdotal how-to from the Chicago Cubs second baseman and middle man of the famed "Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance" double play combination. Evers, known as "The Crab" as much for his personality (he was not on speaking terms with Mr. Tinker) as for his scuttling fielding style, was highly if grudingly repected by players of his era for his brainy "inside" style of play. The full page photo illustrations include Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, teammate Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown and others. Second edition. Fine.
