Price: 185.00 USD

London: John Van Voorst, 1871. 8vo, maroon cloth decorated with gilt lettering & hawk's hood on front cover, engraved frontispiece of Shakespeare [the Chandos' portrait] to which a hunting hawk has been added, plus 33 smaller engravings in the text, [xxiii] + 321 + [2 blank[ + 8 pages of ads. Excellent study by an ornithologist of Shakespeare, his passion for hunting-and-hawking, and technical backgrounds on such sport and its related ornithology. Spine faded as is a 1-inch strip of sun-bleaching along the top of the front and rear covers where book has evidently sat beside a smaller volume, thus exposing its upper portions to extra sunlight. Nice tight copy of a very informative addition to Shakespearean studies. First Edition. Very Good.
