GREECE, Painted by John Fulleylove R.I., Described by the Rev. J. A. McClymont, M.A., D.D.

Price: 100.00 USD

(London: A & C Black, 1924), ONE OF THE VERY BEAUTIFUL ADAM AND CHARLES BLACK TRAVEL BOOKS. FINE COLOUR PLATES BY JOHN FULLEYLOVE THROUGHOUT. McClymont referred especially to Grote's monumental History of Greece and to Frazer's Commentary on Pausanias in working on his text. The author makes a wonderful atmosphere for viewing the scenes and objects presented by the artist, one of England's most famous travel illustrators. This is a fine copy of a lovely book. First revised edition, published as part of "Black's Popular Series of Colour Books". The second edition overall. With 32 beautiful colour plates by Jon Fulleylove and with a map, titlepage within ornate border of woodcut style. 8vo, publisher's original blue cloth, handsomely decorated in blind on the upper cover and spine, the spine lettered in silver, in the scarce white paper dustjacket lettered in blue and decorated with Fulleylove illustrations on the upper cover and spine. xii, 235, 4 ads pp. A very bright, clean and handsome copy with a bit of the typical fore-edge spotting, the cloth very attractive and especially well preserved, the jacket with some minor mellowing as one would expect and just a little edge-wear, but complete and in quite excellent condition.
