At this time, unrest between Brazilians and their mother country was growing, and the colony would soon declare independence. Capitancies are delineated by hand coloring and relief is shown with hachures. The map includes cities, rivers, and coastal features such as ports.The map is in very good condition with some minor foxing.John Cary (1754-1835) was a British cartographer and engraver. His highly detailed and accurate maps mark a turning point from the earlier emphasis on decoration toward a greater emphasis on information. This map is a fine example of Cary's work.
