New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1971. SIGNED: Oblong quarto [28.5cm x 24cm]; cream colored cloth boards blind stamped with a reproduction of Steig's signature. Title stamped in black on spine. Jacket has some fading to it, significant open tears along head and foot. Jacket has been price clipped. Previous price and the word "Homor" lightly penciled on front-flap of jacket. There is a musky smell. Author signature on half-title. Half-title has some discoloration. This is the second collection of Steig's drawings which were featured regularly in The New Yorker. The images presented within depict black and white scenes from various male/female couplings. The images range from the medieval to modern times. Fantasy elements are humoursly inserted when comedically appropriate. The actions of the couples range from flirtation to bickering, and there is no lack of copulation. A poem from Arthur Steig (William Steig's brother) introduces the book, and Steig has signed the half-title in blue pen. First edition. Very good.
