Extremely scarce signed Mathew Brady cabinet photograph, albumin print, 4.25" x 6.5", adhered to Brady's National Portrait Gallery mount, 625 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington, D.C., depicting Cox as Governor of Ohio in 1866 and boldly signed on verso: "Very sincerely yours - J.D. Cox". *When Cox signed this photograph in 1866, at the infancy of Reconstruction, he was against African American suffrage in the South, though he fiercely supported it in Ohio. American statesman who served as Major General during the Civil War. In 1866 he was elected the 28th Governor of Ohio and upon the expiration of his tenure he was appointed United States Secretary of the Interior by President Grant, serving from March 1869 - October 1870. very good.
