London: Cecil Palmer, 1924. First edition. 4to. xii, 190, (2) pp. Publisher's blue cloth backed black boards, paper labels to spine and upper cover, the upper panel of the dust jacket featuring a typical Kauffer design tipped in at the front free endpaper, inscribed by Kauffer on the front endpaper "To my friend R.P. Gossop - in admiration... 1924". 50 colour plates plus numerous illustrations, mostly black and white. Darkening to the spine which is rubbed at the ends and has some loss to the paper label. Reginald Percy Gossop (1876-1951) came to prominence as a designer and illustrator in the early 20th century. He was also art editor of British Vogue for a time and founded his own artists agency in the 1920s. His many clients included W.H. Smith, the Ministry of Information and London Transport, for whom he designed posters. This is presumably what brought him into the same sphere as Kauffer with whom he evidently had a warm relationship.
