Connett, Eugene V., III
Price: 9,000.00 USD
Published: New York, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1922. There are approximately 150 pages of original typescript; the printer's typescript and its carbon run about 155 pages each; and there are 60 galleys. The typed material measures 11 x 8-1/2 inches, galleys approximately 24 x 6 inches. 1 vols. MANUSCRIPT OF HIS FIRST BOOK. A wonderful archive, with a completeness to warm the collector's heart. Connett has heavily corrected his original typescript, which was originally titled "YOUTH AFIELD. A Guide for Young Sportsmen". There are 8 pages of pencilled manuscript on pike, which differ considerably from the printer's typescript and carbon, and 14 pages of similar manuscript some of which was used and some of which, dealing with technical aspects of the trout's vision, was deleted from the published text. There is also a one-page Foreword, which was not used. Connett has corrected the retyped printer's copy, and its accompanying carbon; the galleys show minor corrections of typographical errors in a proofreader's hand, but Connett has typed out a lengthy addition to be inserted in the galleys, and this is present. Connett went on to become the proprietor of The Derrydale Press, author of a number of other sporting books, and a figure of near-legendary stature in the world of publishing. It is with this fascinating manuscript that it all began. A SPLENDID AND IMPORTANT ARCHIVE. Formerly the property of Mrs. Eugene V. Connett, III Published: New York, Charles Scribner's Sons, 1922. The archive is in basically fine condition - a few pages of typescript, once crumpled, have been flattened out, a few marginal tears here and there, but overall sound and attractive. Housed in a handsome custom-made crimson morocco-backed case with two inner cloth chemises.
