New York: 1912. 2 pages (glued together in upper left corner, not affecting text), 10.5 x 8 inches, New York, April 8, 1912. Written to Elbridge Gerry (descendant of Elbridge Gerry, signer of the Declaration of Independence), requesting a subscription and contribution to underwrite a "Christian Conservation Congress," in part: "...You doubtless already know of the Men and Religion Forward Movement...This great, intelligent, and sane uprising of Christian men will be brought to a conclusion in New York City...the expenses will not be less than $35,000...On behalf of the Finance Committee I write to ask you whether you will be one of a small group of men...each subscribing from $1,000 to $5,000..." Attached to the pages, is a letter from Gerry's secretary, declining the offer. Faint square-shaped stain of black residue on the first page; natural folds and in very good(-) condition.
